Members can't join a group or topic

When a member can’t join a discussion, it’s most likely because of one of the following errors:

  • "We can't find this Group or Topic" error: The group or topic may be hidden. For members to join the discussion, leads must change the group or topic status to “Active.”
  • "Email or email domain _____ is not allowed to join" error: The group or topic has a setting turned on that restricts who and how members can join.
  • "Brand New Group" error: The group doesn't have any members or topics yet. For members to join the discussion, leads must add members or topics to the group.
  • Member gets "isn't eligible for an account" error: If a member gets this error, make sure they try to open Flipgrid at my.flipgrid.com. This happens when they're only eligible for a member account and try to sign in through a URL meant for leads instead of joining a group as a member.

How to activate a Group

Web Browser Mobile Application
    1. Go to admin.flipgrid.com.
    2. Select the group you want to activate.
    3. Near the top right, click More More.png > Edit group Edit_pencil.png.
    4. Next to "Edit group," click Settings Settings.png.
    5. Under "Privacy," turn on Active.
    6. Click Save changes.

How to activate a Topic

Important: You're only able to activate a topic on Flipgrid on web.

  1. Go to admin.flipgrid.com.
  2. In the top left, click Topics Topics.png.
    • You can also select the group > the topic.
  3. Near the top right, click More More.png > Edit topic Edit_pencil.png.
  4. Next to "Edit topic," click Settings Settings.png.
  5. Under "Topic status," click the down arrow Down.png.
  6. Select Active.
  7. Click Save changes.
