Step 1: Choose if members should use an email to join a group
Choose whether you'd like your members to join a group by having to sign in with an email or simply include a username created by you.
-
Important:
- We encourage students to use a school email address. Even if an email doesn't end with @outlook.com or @gmail.com, it may still be associated with Microsoft or Google. Learn more about emails here.
- Signing up on www.flipgrid.com is intended for leads only. Students can start using Flipgrid by joining a group or topic.
All of the below options require that members sign in with a Microsoft or Google email.
-
Join code:
Going to www.flipgrid.com and entering a join code. For example, "a602dd7e." -
Link:
Clicking a link with a code at the end. For example, "https://flipgrid.com/a602dd7e."- This link can lead to either a group or a topic.
- Group links can be set as "Anyone can join" or "Only people who are approved."
- Topics links will let members request to join the topic, unless they've already been approved.
- If a topic is in a group where a member has been approved through email or Google Classroom, they can automatically join. If a group link is set as "Anyone can join," they'll be able to view all topics in the group, unless they're hidden or private.
- This link can lead to either a group or a topic.
-
Google Classroom:
Clicking a link on Google Classroom or in a member's email. -
Guest password:
Including a guest password to join a topic.- Important: Guest passwords can only be used for topics. This lets you keep select topics within groups private.
This option doesn't require that members sign in with a Microsoft or Google email. That also means that members won't have the ability to save videos to their profile or post later to a group or topic.
Once you create a group and invite a member with a username, you must remain with this option and can't change how members join your group.
-
Username:
Members can enter a join code and include a specific username as given by you to access a group. Learn more about how to add members by username or QR code.
Important: After members sign in for the first time with a Microsoft or Google email, members can continue using Flipgrid at my.flipgrid.com.
Step 2: Choose who can join with your link
Regardless if your members are invited to join with or without an email, you can still choose to set your group link as:
- Option 1: Anyone can join
This means that even without receiving an invitation through Google Classroom, a username, guest password or added with an email or domain anyone will be able to join. - Option 2: Only people you approve
This means that only members invited through Google Classroom, a username, guest password, or added with an email or domain will be able to join.- Important: If you choose the "Anyone with the link can join" option, even if you invite members with a specific method, other members will be able to join your group immediately.
