Engaging Creativity with the Flipgrid Camera

The Flipgrid camera makes learning fun and empowering, connecting your scholars in a familiar social-media feeling experience with the security and power of your curriculum and unique community. In addition to the ability to record a quick selfie video, the native features built right inside of Flipgrid allow your scholars to creatively construct their creation with and beyond spoken word.

Add Text, Emoji, Drawing, and Custom Images

Your members can build a story by adding visual FLAIR to their video. To do so, they can decorate their screen and then record OR decorate while live. They can upload a custom image, such as a picture of their artwork, and discuss the inspiration and implications.
Steps:
  1. Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
  2. Open the Effects drawer at the bottom of the recorder to add text, emoji, ink, or a custom image.
  3. Create your masterpiece before pressing record OR while recording!
  4. Complete your recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!

Create on Boards

Empower your scholars to show their work with a Board, (whiteboard, blackboard, corkboard, graph paper, and more).

Steps:

  2. Open the Effects drawer at the bottom of the recorder, and click on Board.

Capture quick “images” with the camera in a steady location and move elements about your scene to create a stop-motion video.
Steps:
  1. Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
  2. Capture a scene by quickly starting and stopping the recording.
  3. Slightly change the scene.
  4. Capture a new scene by quickly starting and stopping the recording.
  5. Repeat.
  6. Complete recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!

Upload Videos from Your Camera Roll

Your members can upload clips from their camera roll. Add context by recording an introduction before their clip and a summary clip after the video with the Flipgrid camera. Members can also create videos in other applications and upload those to Flipgrid, an art known as appsmashing… for inspiration, check out the AppSmash Madness 2020 Grid!

Steps:

  1. Launch the recorder by clicking the record button.
  2. Open the Options drawer at the bottom of the recorder, and click on Upload clip.
  3. Find and upload desired media. Note, if students created a video in another app, they will need to download that clip to their camera roll to upload to Flipgrid.
  4. Add context by recording additional segments in Flipgrid, or proceed with solely your uploaded clip.
  5. Complete recording, package with a selfie, and hit submit!

Record with mic only

The 'Mic only' option lets students turn the camera off, so only their voice is recorded via the microphone. Please see this complete guide for more details.
